About

Back of the bar, 5th Ave

Sunset Park Comedy Club is a stand-up room in the back of L'Wren, run by the same people behind Upper East Side Comedy Club.

The idea

Good comedy rooms are small, dark, and hard to find. They're usually attached to a bar that was already good at being a bar. Nobody sets out to build a 400-seat theater on their first try.

So when we found the back room at L'Wren — a cocktail bar that's been one of the best things on 5th Ave since 2018 — it was an easy call. They pour the drinks and run the kitchen. We book the comics and run the show. Everybody does the part they're already good at.

We've done this before

The same team runs Upper East Side Comedy Club, a 40-seat room tucked in the back of Bedford Falls on East 67th Street. Same model, same standards, other side of the river.

What we learned up there is simple: book people who are actually working, keep the room small enough that the comedy lands, don't pad the lineup, and don't make anybody feel like a mark on their way in the door.

What you get

Working New York comics — the people doing sets across the city seven nights a week — plus the ones coming up who you'll be glad you saw early. Not four comics stretched into a lineup. Not a barker on the corner selling you a "free" ticket.

Three shows a week for now: Thursday and Friday at 8, Saturday at 7. More as the room fills up.

Sunset Park, specifically

This neighborhood has never had its own comedy club. It has great bars, great food, and a whole lot of people who shouldn't have to get on a train to Manhattan to see a real show on a Friday night. Now they don't.

Sunset Park Comedy Club is an Old Man Hustle production. Same people, same idea: build the thing in the room nobody else was using.
